Former Welsh Chef of the Year Danny Burke to open first solo restaurant

Former Welsh Chef of the Year Danny Burke is set to launch his first restaurant in the north Wales village of Hawarden, Flintshire.

The 60-seat site, which will be called Shared Olive, is to specialise in Mediterranean and tapas food and will open next week.

Burke, who simultaneously held the junior and senior Welsh Chef of the Year titles in 2000, is also a long-serving member of the Welsh National Culinary team and counts stints at London's Lanesborough hotel and the Chester Grosvenor hotel, in Cheshire, on his CV.

He said: "Had anyone asked me two months ago if I'd ever open a restaurant, the answer would have been no, but it's the right establishment in the right area at a time that's right for me personally.

"Yes it's going to be a challenge but I'm ready for it. I've worked under some excellent chefs and I've also spent the past seven years working in product development where I've learnt a lot about menu planning, market research and food trends."
