D&D London appoints Tom Cook as executive chef at Le Pont de la Tour

D&D London has appointed Tom Cook as executive chef of Le Pont de la Tour following the departure of Lee Bennett.

Cook, who will start his new position on 12 September, joins the Thames-side restaurant from the Michelin-starred Restaurant Tom Aikens, where he has been head chef for the past year.

He previously worked at restaurants including Le Gavroche, the Capital Hotel, City Rhodes in London, and Midsummer House in Cambridge.

Duncan Pitfield, senior general manager at D&D, commented: "I am delighted that Tom is joining Le Pont de la Tour to head up the kitchen team at this significant time, as we celebrate a landmark 20 years on the London restaurant scene.

"As a rising star in the culinary world, Tom will start a new era at the restaurant."

Cook's appointment follows last week's announcement that current executive chef Bennett is to move to Singapore to join the Swissôtel the Stamford as executive chef of its Equinox Complex.

Bennett, who has been at the helm Le Pont de la Tour, near Tower Bridge, for more than three years, will depart for Singapore at the end of August. He has worked under three-Michelin-starred chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Pierre Gagnaire and Alain Ducasse. His first head chef position was at the Michelin-starred Savoy Grill, under executive chef Marcus Wareing, where he won the Craft Guild of Chefs "Restaurant Chef" award in 2007.

Bennett said: "My initial focus will be to make Equinox a success both financially and in reputation. Swissôtel is growing its property portfolio in the area so there may be other opportunities further down the line.

"Singapore is an incredibly vibrant city; there's so much going on and so many big chefs are now running restaurants there and Michelin is rumoured to be launching a guide."
