QHotels launches certificate of higher education

QHotels has become the first UK hotel group to be accredited with a Certificate of Higher Education for its management development programme.

The hotel group, which runs a two-year QED management development programme in partnership with University College Birmingham, has been recognised with a Certificate of Higher Education in Professional Hospitality Operational Management.

The scheme is designed to develop future supervisors and managers for QHotels' 21-strong portfolio and combines classroom-based modules, work-based learning and professional development planning.

Nichola Roskell, QHotels' human resources director, said: "Our programme will support those people wanting to get into senior roles within the hospitality industry, many of whom may be put off by higher education due to the forthcoming increase in fees."

Michael Purtill, managing director at QHotels, added: "This is a first for our industry and demonstrates our commitment to the continued development of our team and ambitious individuals to join us."

He said that within the next year the group is set to develop a trainee management programme incorporating a foundation degree and aims to expand the certificate into other specialist areas of the business such as the spa.

QHotels also runs other staff training initiatives including foundation and intermediate chefs' academies, centres of excellence, specialist management development workshops and graduate fast track programmes.
