Gordon Ramsay has unveiled plans to launch a bistro in New York along the lines of his Foxtrot Oscar operation in London.
Speaking to the New York Post, the celebrity chef, who launched a fine-dining operation at the New York’s London hotel in November 2006, said: “I’m going do something a little bit more relaxed in the style of a café/bistro.”
“We opened Foxtrot Oscar in London - it's an amazing neighbourhood bistro along the lines of (famous New York bistro) The Spotted Pig,” Ramsay added. “It's not because of the credit crunch or holding back. I just love that kind of alternative.”
The authors of the Harden’s restaurant guide took Ramsay to task, immediately posting on their website: “Sometimes you do wonder if Gordon Ramsay isn’t just moving from hype to self-delusion.
“The idea that Foxtrot Oscar could in any way be likened to the Spotted Pig, the innovative smash-hit Downtown gastropub, mobbed nightly, is ridiculous.
“And Ramsay must know that anyone who knows anything about the restaurant scenes in London and New York would find the parallel absurd.”
