The Good Food Guide 2010

The Good Food Guide has expanded its list of the top 40 UK restaurants to 50 to reflect the rise in up-and-coming chefs.

The 2010 edition of the guide, which is published today, has seen a surge in restaurants scoring seven out of 10 awarded for a “high level of ambition and individuality”, prompting its editors to extend its list of top eateries.

While the top four positions are held by acclaimed chefs Heston Blumenthal, Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing and Raymond Blanc respectively, there has been an “explosion of new talent” further down the line.

Michelin-starred chefs including Nathan Outlaw, who made the top 10 for the first time, as well as Jason Atherton, in 11th place, are “snapping at the heels of the frontrunners”, according to the guide.

Elizabeth Carter, editor of The Good Food Guide, said: “There are so many great British restaurants hitting their stride at the moment that we just had to expand to a top 50. Despite the credit crunch, the British restaurant scene has never been so vibrant.”
