Gluten-free chocolate brownie wins Great Taste Supreme Award

Gluten-free Muddee, a coeliac-friendly chocolate brownie made by More? The Artisan Bakery was last night named as the Supreme Champion of 2009’s Great Taste Awards.

The product picked up the prize after several rounds of judging by the Supreme Panel, which included names such as Shaun Hill, Antony Worrall Thompson and Mark Hix.

The final stages of the awards ceremony, which is organised by the Guild of Fine Food, took place at Fortnum & Mason in London, with each round being announced by food and drink presenter Nick Barden.

Regional winners included Dickinson & Morris’ Mini Melton Mowbray Pork Pies (six pack) for Best Speciality from the East Midlands; Chase Distillery for its Chase Elderflower Liqueur in the Best Speciality from the Heart of England category and Gran Stead's Ginger – Non-alcoholic Ginger Wine for Best Speciality from the South East.

Best Scottish Speciality was won by Nevis Bakery Ltd for its Demerara Shortbread, with Glen Tender winning the Best Speciality from Northern Ireland for its Tender Aberdeen Angus Sirloin Steak (21 day matured).

The Speciality Importer of the Year award went to The Fresh Pasta Company, with Tea Ltd picking up the Best First Time Entrant award and Fudge’s/Dorset Village Bakery Ltd walking away with the Speciality Producer of the Year award.

John Shepherd of Partridges of London was awarded the Guild of Fine Food Lifetime Achievement 2009 accolade for his years of service to the food industry.
