1901 and Goodman restaurants hit the spot with critics

1901 at London’s Andaz hotel in the City has hit the spot with the Metro’s food critic, who finds herself lured by “perfectly made, frosty and mammoth vodka Martinis”.

The restaurant, which used to be called Aurora when the hotel belonged to D&D London under its Great Eastern brand, has head chef Dominic Teague in charge of the kitchen.

“Teague's food is good although, like Paula Abdul, it's a little small and overwrought,” Marina O’Loughlin says , before adding “some dishes are actively brilliant”.

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard’s David Sexton reviews the London outpost of Russian-owned New York steak house Goodman and is impressed with its carefully-sourced cuts.

“There is an absolute concentration here on the steaks themselves, outdoing even rivals like Gaucho or Sophie’s,” he says. “Were the steaks good? No, they were great.”
