Bedruthan Steps to open restaurant with Porthminster Beach Cafe

A new seafood restaurant is to open at the Bedruthan Steps hotel on the coast of north Cornwall as a result of a partnership with the owners of the Porthminster Beach Café.

Due to open in April, the restaurant will feature the best elements of seasonal, locally sourced produce with an Asian twist.

Emma Stratton, one of the founders, with sisters Debbie Wakefield and Rebecca Whittington, of Red Hotels, which owns the 101-bedroom Bedruthan Steps in Mawgan Porth, said she and her siblings decided to go into business with Ryan Vennings and Mick Smith of the St Ives-based café to create "an iconic restaurant" for Cornwall.

"Our collaboration allows us to bring an exciting new approach to cooking Cornish seafood and give guests a gourmet dining experience that will shine through on the plate," Stratton said.

The new restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner daily and will embrace the sustainable ethos that is at the heart of both businesses.

Vennings said that he was looking forward to working in a new environment where he could use local sourcing and sustainable seafood, "while purely focusing on good cooking techniques that have influenced me from across the globe".

Smith said the future goals of both parties were very similar. He added: "We are going to create a restaurant that is unique in its ethos and aspirations, I really can't wait to get this restaurant open."
