Mark Greenaway invites diners to pay what they want

Chef Mark Greenaway is taking action against a traditionally quiet time of year by giving diners the opportunity to pay what they think their meal was worth at his eponymous Edinburgh restaurant.

The promotion will start today and run until the end of the month (excluding 25 January) at Restaurant Mark Greenaway on Picardy Place, in a bid to capitalise on a quiet period during which many operators in the city may take a holiday.

Greenaway told STV news that while he is prepared for customers looking for a cheap meal, he is confident that his food is good value.

"I am trying to dispel the myth that fine dining is expensive. If you come here and think it's expensive then pay what you think it's worth," he said. "I think our pricing is great value for the fine-dining food and service we provide."

The menus will feature a suggested price but ultimately it will be up to the customer what to pay.
