The Mere Golf Resort & Spa opens after £15m investment
The launch of the Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Cheshire today marks one of the most prominent hotel openings in the North-west of England for several years.
Developed at a cost of £15m, the new-look resort in Knutsford has added an 81-bedroom hotel alongside a refurbished conference and event space for up to 550 and spa with 20m pool, gym, dance studio and six treatment rooms. The 18-hole golf course is of a qualifying standard for the Open Championship.
The Mere is privately owned by Mark Boler, whose father, Stephen, bought the property in 1984 when it was an exclusive golf and country club.
Graeme Nesbitt, the resort's general manager - previously general manager of De Vere Cameron House at Loch Lomond - said that the Mere was an exciting new opening for the region because it provided an independent and diverse offering.
"We are situated in an affluent and accessible area where we are surrounded by branded properties," he explained. "Hence there is a great demand for something that is a bit different at the highest quality. We are providing that in every area including the food and beverage offer, the service and even the staff uniforms," he explained.
The Mere, which employs 220 staff, has three restaurants: Brown's at the Mere, an upmarket brasserie; the Spa Lounge & Bar; and the Club Lounge with extensive views over the 18th hole.
