Hotels

Andrew Henning has been promoted to executive assistant manager at the five-star, 260-bedroom Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh. He steps up from his role as director of food and beverage. Prior to working at the hotel, Andrew was food and beverage manager at the five-star, 282-bedroom Le Royal Hotel Amman in Jordan. 

The five-star, 220-bedroom Carlton Tower hotel in London has appointed a new resident manager. Gerard Denneny joins the group from the 259-bedroom Four Seasons Hotel Dublin, where he was the director of rooms.

Restaurants
 
Slavic

The five-star, 396-bedroom Royal Garden hotel in London’s Kensington has appointed Yelena Slavic as manager of its rooftop restaurant The Tenth. She joins the three-AA-rosette venue from the Millennium hotel in Mayfair, where she was the deputy food and beverage manager.

Angela Dwyer, former head chef at the Groucho Club, London, has opened her own restaurant. The Peak Brasserie is located in Snowdonia, north Wales, and Angela will be able to draw on her 12 years of experience serving meals at the members-only club. Julia Roberts is the co-owner. Not the Julia Roberts, mind.

 
Whelan-Jones

Motorway service station operator Welcome Break has promoted Novia Whelan-Jones to director of food service. She will lead the group’s 134 catering units at its 124 UK sites. Novia joined the company in 2002 and moves up from her position as food service operations manager.

Contract catering

Hopkinson Catering has promoted Chris Durant to national operations director. Chris has been at the Kenilworth-based contract catering business since last year and moves up from his position as business development director.

Attia

Beverley Grindlay has been appointed business development manager at the Highpoint residential conference centre in Leicester. She joins from Yarnfield Park Training and Conference Centre in Staffordshire, where she was sales executive. Highpoint has a 130-seat conference centre, 12 meeting rooms and 28 bedrooms.

Philippe Attia has been promoted to vice president, operations Europe, of Dolce International Conference and Resort Destinations. He steps up from his role as regional area director for southern Europe but remains managing director of the Dolce Chantilly conference centre near Paris, France.

Brian Wisdom has been made the first permanent chief executive of People 1st, the sector skills council dedicated to the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sectors. Prior to his appointment, Brian was director and general manager of Harvester Restaurants. He replaces Simon Turl, who had acted as the group’s interim chief executive on secondment from Compass Group.

Kurt Janson has been appointed director of policy and administration of the Tourism Alliance. Kurt, who succeeds Richard Tobias, was previously head of strategic planning for VisitBritain.
