Sumosan to stage Harpers & Moët Restaurant Awards

Wednesday 10 November 2004 16:26
Is Sumosan, the Japanese restaurant in London's Albemarle Street, the coolest and funkiest restaurant in Britain to be seen in? You'll find out at the seventh Harpers & Moët Restaurant Awards, to be held at Claridge's on 1 November.

Sumosan, owned by Russian restaurateur Janina Wolkow, is one of five restaurants nominated by Harpers & Queen readers for the Best Scene category first introduced last year and will battle it out with Cipriani, Nobu, San Lorenzo and the Gallery at Sketch.

Another new category, Vintage Year, will recognise a chef, restaurateur, sommelier or front-of-house member deemed to have had an "annus exceptionalis".

Other nominees include Tom Aikens for Restaurant of the Year, Le Cercle for Newcomer of the Year and Rainer Becker for Chef of the Year.
