Celebrity DJ backs Stub out Smoking campaign

Article ThumbnailLegendary DJ Danny Rampling is backing Caterer's campaign to Stub out Smoking in pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and hotels.

Danny Rampling:
"Bringing in a partial
ban would cause no
end of problems"

Rampling, who is one of the stalwarts of the house music scene, playing in clubs all around the world, believes it is time the Government acts to ban smoking in public places.

The former Radio 1 resident DJ is one of hundreds in the hospitality industry that has pledged their support to Caterer's campaign by signing our petition. We will use these to lobby government to protect the health of the UK hospitality industry's 1.6 million workers by stubbing out smoking.

"Passive smoking kills, it is ridiculous to suggest it doesn't. The Government needs to act to bring in a total ban, but it doesn't seem to know which way to go on the issue," Rampling said.

"Bringing in a partial ban would be illogical and would cause no end of problems within the leisure industry. It would make life very difficult for those businesses trying to implement a ban."

Rampling, who has been a Caterer subscriber for the past three years, has worked all over the world as a DJ. He said that working in places such as California, New York and Ireland was "refreshing", because you could leave a club without stinking of stale smoke and with no damage to your lungs. He also believed the ban in Ireland and parts of the USA was having no visible affect on trade.

The DJ is passionate about food and has plans to set up a restaurant business in the next 18 months. "Music is my blood, but I'm equally passionate about food. I want to own my own restaurant at some point and work in the kitchen."

Rampling expects any future business to have a music angle, but his plans are at an early stage. Currently, he is learning everything he can about food and running a business, in preparation for his retirement from the music business.
