Irish firm Dalata Hotel Group is to open a new £25m hotel in Cardiff, marking its first major investment in the UK market.
The hotel will have 216 rooms, making it the largest city centre hotel in Cardiff. Dalata said it planned to follow the development with additional hotels across the UK.
Dalata, which was founded in 2007 by former Jurys Doyle chief executive Pat McCann, operates 21 three-, four- and five-star hotels across Ireland, including eight in Dublin under the Maldron Hotels and Partner Hotels names.
McCann said: "I'm confident that the Maldron Hotel Cardiff will provide a significant boost to the Cardiff economy in terms of tourism and job creation.
"The hotel will not only be a popular destination for visitors, enjoying the city's shopping, sport, entertainment, heritage and many other attractions, but we hope will be a magnet for a whole host of corporate events and prestigious business conferences."
