IHG to launch Indigo brand in Glasgow and Liverpool

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed deals to open its first Hotel Indigo properties in the UK outside London, with properties in Glasgow and Liverpool.

The 96-room Hotel Indigo Glasgow on Waterloo Street, scheduled to open mid-2010, will be franchised by Chardon Management, which already operates seven Holiday Inn and four Holiday Inn Express hotels across the UK.

The second new property under the boutique brand, Hotel Indigo Liverpool, is scheduled to open in spring 2011. Operated by existing IHG franchisee Sanguine Hospitality, the 151-room hotel will be situated in the city centre.

Kirk Kinsell, IHG's president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Signing these two new hotels in the current climate shows we have the right strategy for growing the brand.

“Glasgow and Liverpool are exciting, vibrant cities and thriving tourist and business destinations that are a great match for the Hotel Indigo brand. We look forward to signing more Hotel Indigo properties in cities across Europe."

Indigo, which first launched in the US in 2004, debuted in London with a property in Paddington in January this year.

IHG has since signed deals to open three further London hotels under the brand: Cannon Street and Philpot Lane, both in the City, and Kensington Church Street, in west London.

Last week, IHG signed a management contract for its first Hotel Indigo in Hong Kong. The 150-room property will open in 2012 in Wan Chai under franchise of Tai Hung Fai Enterprise.

Foraging – why all the attention?

Using foraged ingredients is nothing new but the trend has become more mainstream over the past two years. However, the wider use of foraged food in restaurants also carries a certain amount of danger.
