Tom Aikens diversifies with new opening

Friday 10 February 2006 10:32

Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens is to launch a new restaurant concept around the corner from his existing site on Elystan Street, in Chelsea.

The 36-year-old chef has bought a former pub, the Blenheim, on Cale Street, and plans to open a multi-faceted business including a restaurant, games room and private dining room in September.

The four-storey site will include a kitchen, tasting table and wine cellar in the basement; a ground-floor brasserie; a first-floor bar and private dining room for 25; and a top-floor games room and bar including pool table and backgammon.

The kitchen will also include an area for butchery and hanging meat, as well as space for cookery lessons and demonstrations.

The 90-seat dining room will feature an open-kitchen, spit-roast and grill, and serve seasonal and organic British food.

Architects Michaelis Boyd Associates, who have also worked on Nick Jones's country-house hotel Babington House, Sophie's Steak House in Chelsea and Spirit Group's Mook in Notting Hill, are designing interiors for the new project which will open from 7.30am to midnight, daily. A take-away service will also be available.

No name or head chef have yet been revealed for the new project but an announcement is expected in the next couple of weeks.
