Roy Ackerman appointed chairman of the Wine Guild of the United Kingdom

Restaurant consultant and hospitality industry veteran Roy Ackerman has been appointed chairman of the Wine Guild of the United Kingdom.

The Wine Guild's purpose is to encourage the understanding and enjoyment of the fruit of the vine and to support the wine producers of the UK.

Ackerman has represented the guild at FICB (Fédération Internationale des Confreries Bachiques) conferences in Slovenia, France, Switzerland and Hungary in the past and will lead the British delegation to Serbia in June 2012. He was also responsible for instigating the international conference of the FICB in Great Britain four years ago.

Ackerman's other honorary positions include president of the Academy of Food and Wine Service, chairman of the governors of the Academy of Culinary Arts, honorary VP of the Restaurant Association, having served as both chairman and president, and honorary president of the Henley Festival of Music and the Arts (formerly chairman).

He was appointed OBE in 1990 for his contribution to tourism and training and made a CBE in 2000 for services to gastronomy. In 2010 he received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award at the Cateys.
