HP Sauce to stop production in the UK

Brown sauce purveyor HP is to cease production in Britain, despite launching a campaign to save the Great British Greasy Spoon from extinction last month.

Owner Heinz has announced it will close down its Birmingham factory, where the sauce is made, in March 2007 because production costs are too high.

Ironically, the great British sauce is destined for a new home at a state-of-the-art production facility in Holland.

In April, HP launched a campaign to save the traditional British café from extinction at the hands of the rampant branded coffee bar sector, predicting they could be a thing of the past by 2010.

However, the Transport and General Workers Union has now turned the tables and launched a Save HP Sauce campaign, in an attempt to head of 120 job losses.
