The Bishop Blaize

The leasehold on the Bishop Blaize, a detached pub on Exeter’s historic quay and next to the Devon Wildlife Trust’s visitor centre, has changed hands.

The new owners, Ed Borthen and David and Nicola Chadwick, are all experienced in the pub and hospitality trade but are now making their debut as licensees.

The pub’s ground-floor open-plan trade area, a mix of seating and standing areas, can seat between 40 and 50 customers and includes a pool table. The new owners have also boosted outside seating to 50 by redesigning the rear trade patio and garden, which has also gained a new feature pond.

They also intend to introduce food and expand the entertainment options.

The first-floor of the building contains spacioius four-bedroom private accommodation while the second floor, which is currently unused, will be brought into use over the next year or two.

The Bishop Blaize achieves an annual turnover of £134,000 from wet sales .

Stonesmith of Exeter sold the 20-year Whitbread Pub Partnership leasehold off a guide price of £19,950 on behalf of Hannah Birks. Annual rent is £28,716.
