Andrew Stembridge elected vice-chair of Master Innholders

Andrew Stembridge, managing director of Chewton Glen and the current Hotelier of the Year, has been elected as vice-chairman of the Master Innholders (MI). A Master Innholder since 2005, Stembridge has served on the executive committee for five years.

Chairman of the MI, Stuart Johnson, general manager of London's Brown's hotel, said he was delighted that Stembridge had accepted the post. "As a dedicated hotelier and a highly motivated leader he will bring a huge amount of energy to this position," he said.

Stembridge began his career as front-of-house manager at One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow, before working as food and beverage manager for Malmaison hotels in Edinburgh and Glasgow. He then moved to the USA as assistant manager of Blantyre, a Relais & Châteaux property in Lenox, Massachusetts.

Stembridge first arrived at the five-AA-red-star, 58-bedroom Chewton Glen in 1997 as operations manager, but left four years later to take over as general manager of the Scotsman in Edinburgh. He returned to Chewton Glen in 2003 as managing director of the privately owned hotel.

Eleven new members have also been welcomed into the MI at a ceremony held at London's Innholders Hall. They are:

Ivan Artolli, general manager, the Balmoral, Edinburgh
Colin Bennett, general manager, the Park Lane Sheraton hotel and area manager, England
Paul Brackley, general manager, Crowne Plaza London The City
