The Savoy starts to take bookings ahead of hotel reopening

After being closed for nearly three years, the Savoy hotel in London has today started accepting room reservations for its forthcoming reopening on 10 October 2010.

"Opening our room reservations is a landmark moment in the restoration of the Savoy," said the hotel's general manager Kiaran MacDonald. "With only 61 days to go, we are all very excited to welcome back guests to the hotel and to begin a new chapter in the history of the Savoy."

To celebrate the opening, guests are being offered a two night package in one of the hotels 268-bedroom or suites, which will include a Champagne reception and dinner in the River Restaurant on the evening of 10 October, for £485.

The cost of the hotel's refurbishment is believed to have escalated to almost double the original estimate of £100m, with the work taking longer because of the intricacies involved in the remodelling and expansion of the 121-year old building.

More than 1,000 craftsmen and women have been involved in creating interiors by Pierre Yves Rochon faithful to the two main design aesthetics, Edwardian and Art Deco.

New to the property will be the Beaufort Bar, Savoy Tea and the re-introduction of a winder garden gazebo beneath a glass dome in the Thames Foyer.
