Kent chef wins Brakes and Shepherd Neame Best of British competition

Kent chef Stephen Osbourn is the winner of the Best of British competition launched by food service supplier http://www.lovebritishfood.co.uk/about-british-food-fortnight/british-food-fortnight-2011/plans-for-2011/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Brakes ](http://www.brake.co.uk/)and master brewer [Shepherd Neame](http://www.shepherdneame.co.uk/) to celebrate [British Food Fortnight.

Chefs from Shepherd Neame's managed pub estate were challenged to submit recipes for two innovative dishes using British ingredients supplied by Brakes, which offers a wide range of Red Tractor and British meat products to support local growers

Osbourne, from the Royal Albion hotel, competed against two other finalists from Kent establishments (The Wharf and the Marine hotel) in a live-cook off earlier this month.

Osbourn's prize includes a one-to-one tuition course with celebrity chef Richard Philips (who judged the competition alongside Brakes development chef John Homewood and Brakes food centre management Zoe Gill) along with a three-piece Global knife set.

His recipes will also be served in selected Shepherd Neame managed pubs during British Food Fortnight, which runs from 17 September to 2 October.

"The calibre of entries this year was extremely high, showing strong support in pubs across the country for British produce," said Sally Sturley, head of food marketing at Brakes.
