Charles Wells and Yummy Pub Co partner for London acquisition

Charles Wells has bought a south London pub from Young's specifically for the launch of its second operation with the Yummy Pub Company.

The Gorringe Park in Tooting was bought for an undisclosed sum and become the fourth operation in the Yummy Pub Company's portfolio. Its first partnership with Charles Wells is the Somers Town Coffee House in Euston (pictured).

The two companies will make a joint investment of £500K in the property, which will incorporate a cinema on the lower ground floor, traditional ground floor bar and a series of upstairs function rooms including a library and an alchemy lab.

Peter Wells, managing director of Charles Wells, said it was the first time the company had bought a pub in consultation with a specific operator, due to the working relationship the two firms have established.

"It's a model that could be replicated as we are committed to investing in the best pubs and operators as we work towards delivering a great pub experience," he said.

"In the meantime, we look forward to developing this traditional Victorian pub into a unique venue with the values of quality and customer service that are shared by Charles Wells and Yummy Pub Company."

Tim Foster, director of Bedford-based Yummy Pub Company, added: "Of the four Yummy pubs, this is the one we're most excited about, having developed a whole new identity with eccentric design elements that we'll be unveiling in due course."

Charles Wells Pub Company is expected to complete on the pub in late August and it will then close for eight weeks while refurbishment works are carried out.
