Gordon Ramsay wants 10 more London pubs next year
Gordon Ramsay is to open 10 pubs, quadrupling the number of his estate and eclipsing his chain of restaurants. Ramsay believes the success of his first pub, the Narrow in Limehouse, can be replicated across the city. Jail for butcher who sold deadly school meals
A butcher who was responsible for food poisoning that killed a five-year-old schoolboy and infected more than 100 other schoolchildren was yesterday jailed for 12 months. William Tudor, managing director of the firm that supplied school lunches across South Wales, had failed to observe basic food hygiene precautions. Cardiff Crown Court was told that meat sent out by the firm was contaminated with E. coli 0157 bacteria, causing Britain’s second-largest food-poisoning epidemic. – The Times, 8 September

VisitScotland to use London Underground for ad campaign
A campaign to persuade Londoners to holiday in Scotland kicked off yesterday with an open-air exhibition in the capital celebrating all things Scottish including a presentation from Scottish chef Nick Nairn and Shirley Spear and Michael Smith of the Three Chimneys on Skye. It marks the start of a major advertising campaign in the London Underground and at King's Cross Station to show commuters that Scotland is a must-see holiday destination. – Sunday Herald, 9 September

French restaurants warned not to serve ortolan or risk jail
French gourmands are to be denied feasting on tiny ortolan songbirds after their government announced that it intended finally to enforce laws that have been on the statute books for eight years. Restaurateurs caught serving ortolans face a £4,000 fine and risk jail if they reoffend. – Sunday Telegraph, 9 September

Scottish hotels to target Russia for business travel
Scottish tourism leaders are to visit Russia in an effort to build business trips to Scotland. The move is the first of a series of efforts targeting emerging markets around the world. A team from VisitScotland's business tourism unit, as well as representatives from hotels including the Old Course in St Andrews and Gleneagles  are next month to visit Moscow and St Petersburg. – The Scotsman, 8 September
