Trocadero owners bow to council pressure to change hotel design

The owner of the London Trocadero has bowed to pressure from local councillors to change the design of its planned £145m, 600-bedroom Ibis hotel.

Trocadero owner Golfrate is developing the hotel in the heart of London’s West End as part of ambitious plans to redevelop the landmark leisure site.

The hotel, which will be run by French hotel company Accor, is scheduled to open ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

However, at a meeting last month Westminster City councillors refused planning permission for the hotel after concerns about its bulk and height.

One councillor was quoted describing a proposed glass facade lit by different coloured lights as “hideous”.

Director of Golfrate, Michael Hughes, said: “All the matters raised by the committee are being revised, and we are in deep conversation about the Trocadero at the moment. Details will be cleared up and put back in next year.”
