Marriott Hotel County Hall to launch new restaurant

The Marriott Hotel County Hall on London's South Bank is set to launch a new restaurant this year, celebrating all things English.

Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar, which will open at the end of March, will offer a menu of English produce with a focus on steaks and seafood.

The new launch comes after the London Marriott West India Quay hotel relaunched its Curve seafood restaurant as a steakhouse last year, while the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel, replaced Bord'eaux French brasserie with the JW Steakhouse restaurant in 2010.

Named after the 19th-century English caricaturist James Gillray, the new restaurant will reflect the political history of the 100-year-old County Hall overlooking Big Ben and Houses of Parliament. Designed by Blacksheep, interiors will showcase Gillray's work, alongside features such as Chesterfield sofas and Waterford chandeliers.

The menu will have steak at its heart, with nine different cuts of 35-day dry-aged Hereford Cattle from the Duke of Devonshire's Bolton Abbey Estate in Yorkshire. The signature bull's head steak will comprise a 1kg butterfly-cut, double-rib steak. Other dishes will include Brixham diver clams and mussel broth; Foreman's London smoked salmon; and steak tartar.

The drinks list will feature an extensive selection of English gin alongside a cocktail menu, while bar snacks will include pigs in blankets and venison sausage rolls.

Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar will be managed by restaurant manager Jonathan Prescott and bar manager Karina Elias, while the drinks list is being overseen by head bartender Carlos Santos.
