The management of the five-AA-red-star Stafford hotel in London is to be taken over by Kempinski and the hotel renamed as The Stafford London by Kempinski.

It is the first time Kempinski have had a presence in London since the sales and marketing contracts it held at the Bentley and the Court House hotels came to an end two years ago.

The 105-bedroom hotel in St James was brought in September 2009 by Britannia Hospitality, owned by Egypt’s El Sharkawy family, for a reported £77.5m from pubs and hotel firm Daniel Thwaites.

“The collaboration could not be more synergistic,” said general manager Stuart Proctor.

“Kempinski’s commitment to allowing the individual personality of each member shine, along with their dedication to exemplary service, perfectly aligns with what we have always strived to provide for our guests.”

Kempinski, which is believed to be Europe’s oldest collection of luxury hotels, was founded in 1897.  It currently manages 62 properties in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.
