Benugo wins £20m deal with National Museums Scotland

Café-to-restaurant operator Benugo has won a seven-year catering contract with National Museums Scotland worth around £20m in sales.

The caterer will manage a café and a restaurant within the National Museum of Scotland site in Edinburgh when it fully reopens in July following an extensive £46.4m redevelopment of the public space.

Operating during the museum opening hours, the restaurant and the café will each accommodate over 100 covers.

Gordon Rintoul, director of National Museums Scotland, said: "Benugo emerged as the clear winner in all aspects of the tender process, and we are delighted to have them on board.

"They showed great enthusiasm, a track record of excellence in the sector and a real understanding of what we intend to achieve with the transformation of the National Museum of Scotland."

Benugo, part of BaxterStorey parent company Westbury Street Holdings, currently provides catering at the Natural History Museum and the V&A in London and last April it won a £35m contract to provide catering and event services at Edinburgh Castle and other Historic Scotland properties.

Ben Warner, co-founder of Benugo, said: "We are thrilled to be involved with this exciting and ambitious project and it is fantastic to work alongside the team at National Museums Scotland, with whom we share the same aspirations for this progressive redevelopment."

The new operations will run alongside the award-winning Tower restaurant on the top floor of the modern part of the building, run by James Thomson.
