Woodlands Country House sold for about £640,000
Stephen Ort and Judith Willis have moved north from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, to buy a Cumbrian hotel. They paid close to £640,000 for the Woodlands Country House hotel in Ireby. Previous owners John and Helen Payne have retired to Scotland. The Victorian property, which is a former vicarage, has eight letting bedrooms and a two-bedroom self-catering bungalow. It is set in about an acre of landscaped gardens. Colliers Robert Barry was the agent.
Burnley's Bootleggers sold
Bootleggers, a bar in Burnley town centre, Lancashire, has been sold through agents Fleurets. An unnamed man, who is experienced in the industry, bought the property for close to £200,000. The building used to be a Methodist chapel.
Watsons move to Essex pub
Ye Olde Cherry Tree, a pub in Little Oakley, Essex, has been sold for close to £450,000. Reputedly dating from the 16th century, the pub has a main bar area and two dining areas to seat 36 people between them. There is also three-bedroom owner's accommodation. Buyers Jan and Robert Watson are experienced in the trade and move to Essex from the North of England. The agent was Britannia Business Sales.
Former Cardiff restaurateurs buy Herefordshire pub
The Portway Inn, near Staunton on Wye in Herefordshire, has been sold for just less than its asking price of £425,000. Buyers Ron and Ann Stewart are from Cardiff, where they ran the New Corfu Steakhouse restaurant for six years. The Portway is a 16th-century property set in two-and-a-half acres. It has a family room and a 60-seat restaurant. There is letting accommodation comprising seven bedrooms, which has a three-diamond rating. The owner's accommodation includes two bedrooms. The agent was Christie & Co.
Blue Lion gets new owners
The Blue Lion, the only pub in the Norfolk village of North Pickenham, has been sold for just less than £335,000. Former owners Stuart Warwick and Cliff Hunter are planning to buy a bar in the Greek islands. Buyers Mick and Karen Lee are newcomers to the pub industry. The Blue Lion is a three-storey property with a 30-seat lounge bar, a dining room to seat 18 people, and a billiards room with seating for about 30 people. There is two-bedroom accommodation for the owners. The agent was Christie & Co.
East Sussex country house hotel fetches £2.75m
Clive and Jeannie Bennett have sold the three-star Flackley Ash hotel in the village of Peasmarsh, East Sussex, after owning it for 29 years. The hotel was bought by the Betteridge family - a father and two sons - who previously owned a London hotel. The Betteridges paid close to £2.75m for the hotel. Flackley Ash has 45 letting bedrooms, a residents' lounge, a restaurant to seat 70 and a conservatory to seat 30. There is also a leisure complex with a swimming pool, and conference and banqueting facilities for up to 100 people.
