Delia Smith set for TV comeback

TV chef Delia Smith is set to return to the small screen after a five-year break.

Smith, who said in 2004 she had no intention of making a TV comeback, has signed up with the BBC for a new series, which will be screened next spring.

Her new cookery show will be based on an updated version of her 1971 book How To Cheat At Cooking and will focus on making hassle-free family meals.

“It’s going to cut out time-consuming processes,” said Smith. “We’re short-cutting all the rules.”

Smith first appeared on British television in 1973 with her show Family Fare.

In 1996 she and her husband, publisher Michael Wynn-Jones, bought a controlling stake in Norwich City Football Club.
