TerraVina set to expand with several hotels and London restaurant

Award-winning boutique hotel TerraVina in the New Forest, Hampshire, is set to expand.

Owners Nina and Gerard Basset are seeking investors to help them finance the opening of "several hotels" on the coast and in provincial towns. The ideal size of each one would be between 20 and 40 bedrooms.

"We would initially like another property within 40 to 50 miles of where we are now, and then a third one a little further away still," explained Nina.

The Bassets opened the 11-bedroom TerraVina in 2007 after taking a break from the industry following the sale in 2004 of Hotel du Vin, which Gerard had founded with Robin Hutson 10 years earlier. At the end of the year they plan to add an additional five bedrooms to the hotel, along with a new meeting room and tasting room.

"It was always our intention from the outset to roll out several TerraVinas, but it has taken us this long to feel that we are now ready. TerraVina in the New Forest is now running very nicely for us.

"We are talking to the banks as well as individuals with expertise and ideas who could help us expand the group."

The Bassets also have plans to open a restaurant in London, which will be outside of the TerraVina brand.

Gerard Basset, who last year was named the Best Sommelier in the World and won the Catey Special Award, was awarded the OBE in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours,
