Hilton signs second deal for Nigeria
Hilton Hotels has signed its second property in Nigeria, on the shore of the Gulf of Guinea. The 250-room Hilton Lagos Airport, expected to open in the latter part of 2010, will be owned by Aero Marine (West Africa), and will be managed by Hilton. The hotel, which will be Hilton’s eighth property in Africa, will feature a pool, fitness and health spa, and an all-day restaurant, in addition to a fine dining restaurant, lobby bar and pool snack bar. For special events and business travel, the hotel will also house a ballroom and meeting rooms.

Israel’s Dan Hotels goes international
Israel’s luxury hotel group, the Dan Hotels Corporation, has announced plans to establish a chain of hotels in India, which will mean taking the brand overseas for the first time. The group has already secured a plot of land in Bangalore and will begin construction within the next few months. The 250-room luxury hotel will be completed by 2011. Dan Hotels owns 13 properties across Israel, with its flagship hotel being the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.

IHG acquires fifth Kuwait property  
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Bukhamseen Holding Group have signed an agreement to develop the InterContinental Kuwait Downtown. Set to open in early 2010, the property marks the group’s fifth property in Kuwait. The 200-room InterContinental Kuwait Downtown will be located in close proximity to the government and business district in central Kuwait city, with several shopping and entertainment options nearby. The hotel will cater for the high-end intra-regional and international business travel sector.

Starwood launches its luxury collection brand in Mauritius
Starwood Hotels and Resort has opened its luxury branded hotel retreat The Grand Mauritian on the northwest coast of Mauritius. Located on Turtle Bay, the retreat marks the Luxury Collection’s first foray into the Indian Ocean. The 193-room resort offers several types of accommodation including 15 individual villas, 105 deluxe rooms, 50 courtyard junior suites and 33 luxury terrace suites. The hotel’s Mandara Spa combines Asian inspired treatments with modern techniques and products are made from natural ingredients with treatments carried out in individual open-air spa villas surrounded by tropical gardens.
