Nike adds Swan Diplomat

Nike Group Hotels has bought the Swan Diplomat hotel at Streatley on Thames, Berkshire, from Diplomat Hotels of Sweden for an undisclosed sum.

The four-star, 46-bedroom hotel, which will be renamed the Swan at Streatley, was a 17th century inn. It was mentioned in Jerome K Jerome's Three Men in a Boat, and owned by Danny La Rue in the 1970s.

It joins Nike's first hotel, the four-star, 205-bedroom Coppid Beech hotel in Bracknell, Berkshire, which the company built in the early nineties.

Nike Group Hotels is part of the Nike Group which was set up by chairman John Nike in the sixties. The Bracknell-based group owns two local sports teams and runs dry ski slopes and ice rinks around the country, including an Olympic-sized rink on the Coppid Beech site.

Coppid Beech manager and Nike Group hotel director Alan Blenkinsopp managed the Swan Diplomat for five years during the 1980s.
