Small restaurants, bars and hotels that play radios and TVs for their guests will pay a discounted rate from next year.
The tariff charged by Phonographic Performance drops to £50 per year from January provided the area in which the TVs or radios can be heard is 50sq m (375sq ft) or less.
Larger premises will have to pay £100 for every 100sq m in which playback is audible. This charge covers CDs and audio tapes as well, and will also apply to smaller premises that want to play these recorded media.
The new tariffs will come into force when each individual licence is renewed.
