Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall won the overall Glenfiddich trophy at the 35th annual Glenfiddich Food and Drinks awards on Monday (9 May).
The food writer was commended for his campaigning zeal and commitment to real food.
The ceremony, held at the Albannach restaurant in London, also saw him triumph in the Best Television Programme category for his Channel Four series “Beyond River Cottage”.
Other winners included the Independent’s Terry Durack in the Restaurant Critic award, the Guardian’s Matthew Fort in the Cookery Writer category, and Joanna Blythman for her book Shopped: The Shocking Power of British Supermarkets in the Food Book class.
Jamie Oliver and Jeanette Orrey were the joint winners of the Glenfiddich Independent Spirit prize.
Orrey’s was rewarded for her consistent campaigning on the need to improve school meals and Oliver for Jamie’s School Dinners programme and Feed Me Better school meals campaign.
Gordon Ramsay won the GQ magazine Glenfiddich Food & Drink Personality award.
