Should restaurants be obliged to display their "hygiene scores" from health inspections?

I think that if a local authority is doing its job then it won't allow restaurants that don't adhere to the rules to operate. We don't need a whole lot of posters or stickers in the window to prove that. There would also be discrepancies between different local authorities - what one considers important may not be significant to another.
Jonathan Kaye, Chief executive officer, Prezzo

I think it's a good idea. It would concentrate efforts to get good marks. In fact, it would probably be more useful if the scores were published on a website so that people could grade the restaurants before they went.
Neil Wornham, managing director of Porters English Restaurant

No, there would be no fundamental benefit for the customer. You can tell how proud a restaurateur is by checking whether the floor or the toilet is clean. It's a bit like when you buy a second-hand car. If I went to a restaurant that had a low score but was booming I would still go in because a high turnover of food means that there are fewer opportunities for food poisoning.
Rainer Becker, Co-owner and chef, Zuma
