Nine independently owned pubs, hotels and restaurants (including one café) were recognised as the best in their class this week at the 2004 annual Les Routiers Awards.
Open to all the organisation's members, the national winners were picked for their hospitality, food and drink, and value for money.
The winners were the Bell at Skinfrith, Monmouthshire, Wales (Inn of the Year); the White Horse, Frampton Mansell, Gloucestershire (Dining Pub of the Year); Clachaig Inn, Glencoe, Scottish Highlands (Real Ale Pub of the Year); the Crown at Southwold, Suffolk (Wine Pub of the Year); Strattons, Swaffham, Norfolk (Hotel of the Year); Port na Craig, Pitlochry, Perth and Kinross (Restaurant of the Year); Tor Cottage, Tavistock, Devon (B&B of the Year); Mill Race Organic Restaurant, Leeds (Wine List of the Year); and Hive on the Quay, Aberaeron/Ceredigion, Wales (Café of the Year).
