Pub operator Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) plans to axe the Beefeater and Brewers Faye brands if it becomes the new owner.
The managed pub operator is looking at up to 250 sites in a deal worth between £300m to £500m, according to reports.
M&B is expected to make a statement regarding the deal in its interim results due on 25 May, although owner Whitbread is believed to still be finalising exactly how many it intends to sell.
Any purchased pub-restaurants would likely be converted to existing M&B brands such as Toby Carvery and Harvester
