Blackpool launches customer service course to improve image

Staff across the hotel, restaurant and leisure industry in Blackpool are to undertake a tourism training course that aims to improve customer service levels.

Workers in customer-facing jobs across the entire seaside destination of Blackpool are taking up its “Welcome to Blackpool” customer service training course, delivered by Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board in partnership with Blackpool Council.

Around 3,000 people are set to complete the course over the next two years from organisations including hotel staff, B&Bs, restaurants, pubs, retail and leisure attractions’ owners and staff and even the local police force.

The course covers what to see and do, how to travel around, where to eat and drink, and where to shop, as well as training in core customer service skills.

Mike Wilkinson, chief executive of Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board, said acquiring good customer service skills was “key to the successful revival of our resorts”.

He said: “As increasingly discerning and demanding customers look closer to home for their annual holiday or short break great customer care will distinguish one resort from the next.”
