The deadline for the RSPCA good business awards, which recognise ethical business approaches to animal welfare, is looming.

The 2009 Hotel Cateys entry process is now in full swing as well. So to be considered for one of these prestigious awards, get your entry in now.

You really need to take a hint sometimes. Certainly in the case of the Chinese restaurant that had eleven warnings before being hit with a fine over hygiene standards they can't really claim it was unexpected.

Unexpected, however, was the departure of Searcys 1847 chief executive Duncan Ackery this week.

In fact it’s been a week of upheaval. The general manager of the Michelin-starred Vineyard at Stockcross, Nicolas Peth, quit his role after five years to join a Thai hotel group. William Drabble, head chef at Aubergine in London's Chelsea, also left for pastures new.

Heston Blumenthal revealed he was working on an NHS project, and the British Hospitality Association likened the Government's tourism policy to that of someone in intensive care, stating it shows a sad lack of vision.

Quote of the Week
"Too many people are trying it on - it's a culture of complaining. Enough is enough. Operators should fight back"
