Gordon Ramsay Holdings denies Marcus Wareing is to leave the Savoy Grill

Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) has flatly denied rumours that Savoy Grill chef-patron Marcus Wareing is set to leave the Michelin-starred restaurant.

Several industry sources have told Caterer that Wareing, who is also chef-patron at London's two-Michelin-starred eaterie Pétrus, will not return to the restaurant at the five-star Savoy hotel following the property's closure for a major refurbishment.

One source said that Wareing leaving the Savoy Grill was currently the "talk of London", while another said it was "definitely happening".

However, a GRH spokeswoman said: "GRH has no comment to make other than to deny there is any truth in the story."

Wareing, who declined to comment, has been chef-patron at the Savoy Grill for four years and won the restaurant its first Michelin star in January 2004.

The hotel is set to close in December for 16 months to undergo a £100m-plus revamp to be overseen by international designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. The refurbishment will include the upgrading of the suites overlooking the Thames, the guest rooms, corridors and public areas, and see the reopening of the River Restaurant.
