New golf hotel to open next door to home of Top Gear

A 100-bedroom Hilton hotel is to form part of the £30m redevelopment of the new regional headquarters of the Professional Golfers Association in Surrey.

Planning permission has been granted for the hotel, together with 40 lodges, a luxury spa and golf academy at Wildwood Golf & Country Club in Cranleigh, which is owned by Translloyd Developments.

The plans also include extensive renovations to the existing club house. Following the redevelopment, the course will become a Centre of Excellence for junior golfers.

Translloyd Developments director Edmund O'Reilly Hyland described Wildwood as having an excellent reputation in the world of golf.

"It has always suffered from not being able to offer its visitors and members more," he said. "Rather than just being an outstanding golf course, it will now be an outstanding golf resort. The availability of Dunsfold Aerodrome - home to Top Gear - next door will also make the resort a playground for the rich and famous.

"Currently the local area loses hundreds of thousands of pounds a year in hotel, restaurant and tourism income because visitors to the course are forced to head to Guildford and Horsham owing to a lack of facilities in the area. By investing in the entire course we will not only be adding value for the members, but bringing additional income to the local community."
