Around 100 staff lose jobs after Llangollen Hotels goes into administration

Around 100 staff have been made redundant after Llangollen Hotels, which owned seven hotels in North Wales and Cheshire, and its parent company Global Investments Group, went into administration.

The four freehold hotels in the group - Bodidris Hall in Wrexham, and three properties in Llangollen (Wild Pheasant, Chainbridge and Bryn Howel) - are continuing to operate as normal, with all staff continuing to work and with all bookings and deposits being honoured.

However the three leasehold hotels - the Anchor in Ruthin, Wynnstay Arms in Wrexham and the Chester Bridge in Chester - have all closed, with the staff losing their jobs.

Llangollen Hotels was run by Stephanie Booth, who appeared in a BBC Wales fly-on-the-wall documentary series Hotel Stephanie, which showed the day-to-day problems of managing hotels during the recession.

David Costley-Wood, joint administrator and restructuring partner at KPMG, said that the Global Investments Group had built up substantial debt after expanding rapidly into a range of leisure business, including children's soft play centres and a wine bar.

"The business is now no longer able to make payments as they fall due, necessitating the appointment of administrators," he said.

New owners are now being sought for the four freehold hotels, which are continuing to trade well.
