Brits want friendlier staff rather than longer opening hours at pubs, according to a new survey.
Penderyn, the Welsh single malt whisky, surveyed 2,500 people and found a warm welcome was at the top of their wish list, with cleaner toilets second and a better selection of drinks third.
Longer hours, which will come into operation at many pubs across England and Wales on 24 November as part of the Government’s new licensing regime, were a low priority for most drinkers in seventh place.
Regionally, customers in Yorkshire are most interested in lower prices while Londoners value choice more than anything else.
The poll also found theme bars were falling out of favour with only 10% of the sample choosing an American or Irish theme bar over their British counterparts.
The top five changes wanted in order of importance were: Friendlier staff, cleaner toilets, a better selection of beer, wines and whiskey, more comfortable seats and lower prices.
