A fine wine auction and gala dinner featuring some of the UK’s top chefs has helped to raise £140,000 for charity Action Against Hunger.

The dinner, held at London restaurant One Lombard Street last Saturday (10 October), was hosted by chef-patron Herbert Berger who together with Michelin-starred chefs Heston Blumenthal (Fat Duck), Angela Hartnett (Murano) and Fergus Henderson (St John) created a four-course meal.

The dinner was followed by an auction of fine wines and food-related trips, which culminated in a dinner for two at Ferran Adrià’s iconic three-Michelin-starred restaurant El Bulli in Spain which sold for £10,500.

All proceeds from the dinner and auction, which was attended by 180 guests, will support Action Against Hunger’s work in providing clean water and combating child hunger and malnutrition in more than 40 countries worldwide.

Frances Mason, trustee for Action Against Hunger, said: “It has been a difficult financial year, but we all have to remember that ‘difficult’ to the families Action Against Hunger helps means cutting down from three meals a day to one.”

Herbert Berger, chef patron of One Lombard Street, added: “The support shown for Action Against Hunger really brings home how important the work of this organisation is.

“It was a delight and great fun to work with such amazing chefs as Heston, Angela and Fergus tonight. The evening was a wonderful success, and long may Action Against Hunger’s good work continue.”
