Coffee shop chain Costa yesterday celebrated the opening of its 500th UK store in Summertown, Oxford.
Anthony Habgood, chairman of Costa parent Whitbread, joined staff in Oxford for the official opening of the new 70-seater store on Banbury Road.
With an investment in excess of £250,000, the opening of the Costa store will produce a number of new jobs in the local area.
John Derkach, Costa's managing director, said: "500 UK stores is a fantastic achievement for Costa and Oxford is a great location to celebrate this milestone.
“We recently announced ambitious plans to double our previous target of stores by 2010. We now expect to grow from around a total of 650 stores today to 2,000 stores in the next five years. The new stores will be opened both in the UK and international markets."
