Flood forces Michelin-starred restaurant Deanes to close

Northern Irish chef-restaurateur Michael Deane has been forced to close his Michelin-starred restaurant in Belfast following severe flooding.

Subzero temperatures in Northern Ireland last weekend caused Deanes restaurant to be flooded with two inches of water after pipes froze and burst. 

Deane now faces substantial losses as the restaurant could be closed for up to one month for repairs. 

“It’s a disaster,” Deane told the Belfast Telegraph.

“We have around 40 members of staff here. The ceiling will have to come out and there’s an awful lot of damage."

He added: “With January being a quiet month anyway, it has basically brought this business to its knees — but at least nobody has been hurt.”
