Catering giant Compass Group UK & Ireland has axed 93 senior positions. In a statement this week, the company said the losses would be in management and administrative support.
Following its sale of Travelodge and Little Chef, Compass found that certain positions were duplicated after the remaining roadside businesses were incorporated into its retail and travel division, Select Service Partner (SSP).
The new SSP division did not account for all job losses, however, as a review had looked at cutting overhead costs across the business, a spokeswoman said.
The employees affected by the cuts had been given the options of redundancy, retraining or transfer to another part of the company.
This is the second round of redundancies to have hit Compass employees recently. Late last year, Compass made some job cuts at Quadrant Catering, its joint venture with the Post Office, in response to a reduction in the workforce at Royal Mail.
A total of 11 people were affected, including its human resources director and finance manager, who took early retirement, and an operations director who accepted alternative employment at Compass.
