Young waiters win ACA plaudit

Thursday 13 April 2006 00:00
Fourteen young waiters gained the Academy of Culinary Arts' Annual Awards of Excellence in a tense final staged at London's Le Gavroche restaurant on Saturday (8 April).

Successful competitors included three each from Perthshire's Gleneagles and London's Ritz hotels, but there was only one triumphant female competitor - Sylvie Fornage of the capital's Bentley Kempinski hotel.

Competitors had to prove their professional skills by serving a three-course lunch with accompanying wines. Decanting, carving at table and opening Champagne bottles were among the designated tests.
