Thousands of whiskies to feature at Boisdale Canary Wharf

Boisdale is to open its Canary Wharf site next week after a launch at which Jools Holland will present the Jazz FM Discovery Show live from the restaurant.

The Scottish restaurant and whisky bar will be the third Boisdale in the capital, after Belgravia and Bishopsgate, and will include the largest whisky bar in Europe with more than 1,000 malt whiskies and Europe's largest humidor featuring rare cigars.

Covering 12,000sq ft it will be the largest restaurant in Canary Wharf and is set to attract music aficionados with live jazz, blues and soul. To bolster its jazz credentials, former Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club general manager Geoff Todd will oversee the operation.

The menu will feature primarily Scottish ingredients prepared by head chef Andy Rose. Dishes will include Aberdeenshire beef, Highland lamb, Hebridean shellfish and salmon, and seasonal Scottish game, while a carving trolley will serve a daily changing roast.

A second floor bar will offer a choice of more than 1,000 whiskies, which can be enjoyed on an awning-covered heated terrace - complete with tartan blankets - with a Cuban cigar. Meanwhile, a caviar and oyster bar will serve a range of oysters, shellfish, smoked salmon and caviar.

Boisdale managing director Ranald Macdonald said: "Our aim is for Boisdale of Canary Wharf to be a one-stop-shop for all people who enjoy the Boisdale ambiance.

"So with our legendary hamburgers starting at £8, main courses in the Restaurant from £12.50 and delicious French house wines from £15 a bottle, the price point is truly accessible to all, but for those who want to prudently splash out we will have some Petrus '95 for under £2,000 a bottle."

The project has been managed by John O'Neil & Partners, who were responsible for Corrigan's Mayfair and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester. It was designed in consultation with Rupert Charles-Jones.
